Gallup Hungary using webCATI with 600 interviewers in 27 countries on one server
Most CfMC users know that CfMC software is one of the most powerful and stable software available in research industry. One client is demonstrating that it’s also the most flexible.
The Flash Eurobarometer, a long-term study with a cutting edge infrastructure designed by Peter Husztik of Gallup Hungary, illustrates the strength of CfMC’s Web-based CATI product, webCATI. Peter gave a presentation on the study at the 2007 CfMC Users' Conference in San Francisco this past March. It is one of the largest cross-border CATI studies ever commissioned in Europe.
The Flash Eurobarometer is a four-year project conducted in over 27 countries of the European Union, in 40 languages using up to 600 interviewers at any time. The organization of such an undertaking may be daunting to any researcher let alone the IT demands in setting up such a network, especially when the time constraints each survey are extremely rigid – five days of translation, five days of fieldwork and five days to produce the reports.
How does Peter and his team manage such a demanding project? Undoubtedly, having the ability to collect all the data from each telephone interview over the Internet directly onto a centrally controlled CfMC server in Gallup’s Budapest office has helped. The Gallup team also carefully chose strategic partners in geographical areas to compliment the skills and improve the penetration of the existing Gallup operation.
CfMC’s support department gave the Gallup team access to the necessary knowledge base whenever they met any technical or research challenges.

Peter and his team planned meticulously before the project went into field to ensure that all the systems where in place to allow for central management of not only the data but also the translation, script writing, sample, monitoring, quality control and data processing and reporting.
Illustrating CfMC research software’s flexibility, Peter and his team have developed custom applications to facilitate a complex process beginning with an approved Microsoft Word questionnaire that is split into text elements and uploaded to the surveys database. Additional settings needed for automated script-writing are then added (such as question type, response values and attributes, skip logic, etc.).
Automatic script-generation inserted into a survey frame can then fulfill any study-specific requirements (such as an EU country list for selection, country-specific TV channels, specific JavaScripts, etc.)
The study is monitored from top line down to individual interviews by Peter and his team. Because the monitoring tool is Web-based, he can share these reports with both internal and external company partners.
