Gallup to host Flash Eurobarometer surveys with state-of-the-art webCATI
A consortium led by the Gallup Organization has been selected by the European Commission to manage polls for the next four years. The commission selected Gallup to lead the consortium running the EC’s Flash Eurobarometer opinion polls, the premier tools for collecting and analyzing policy-relevant data for European political decision-makers.
As traditional telephone sampling continues to decline, Gallup will lead Flash Eurobarometer with a sophisticated mixture of mobile and traditional telephone interviewing, combined with face-to-face interviewing, to provide complete coverage and rapid delivery of information. A total of 34 countries will be involved, including EU member states, candidate countries, and other European nations.
Gallup’s Hungary office will coordinate the survey work using centrally controlled remote interviewers located in countries covered by the surveys and linked through secure Internet connections. The high-end survey software will be webCATI, from research software company CfMC, with headquarters in San Francisco, California.
“We are quite excited about this new opportunity,” says Peter Husztik, Director of IT Department in Gallup Hungary. “We have chosen webCATI for more than two years for our centralized, Europe wide interviewing operations. I’m sure we have chosen the best tool for doing the surveys. This kind of project would be daunting without the help of the best support team in the industry.”

CfMC and Gallup have had “an excellent working relationship with Gallup over many years,” indicates Stephen Hughes, CfMC’s European commercial director. “Gallup always has been on the forefront of IT experience in the industry,” Hughes adds. “This is another example of Gallup embracing a new technology that gives them an advantage in terms of power, flexibility, and pricing.”
Adds CfMC president Richard Rands, “CfMC has focused our development efforts over the last few years toward providing a Web-based CATI system that will securely handle a task of this magnitude.”
